Migrant Worker Suraj Attacked in Tamil Nadu, Four Minors Detained by Police

A migrant worker identified as Suraj, a native of Odisha, was brutally attacked near Tiruttani railway station in Tamil Nadu by a group of minors. The assault, captured on video and widely circulated on social media, showed the attackers using sharp weapons, leading to serious injuries. Suraj was rushed to hospital and remains under medical treatment.

Police confirmed that four juveniles were detained in connection with the attack, as reported by India Today.

Tamil Nadu Police confirmed that four juveniles were involved in the attack and have been detained under the Juvenile Justice Act. All accused have been sent to a juvenile home, and an investigation is underway to determine the motive, including whether the assault was random or targeted.

The incident triggered strong public reaction, with widespread outrage online and demands for strict action. Civil society groups and migrant worker associations raised concerns over the safety of migrant labourers, calling the attack disturbing and unacceptable.

So far, no official statement has been issued by the Tamil Nadu government. Police officials stated that law-and-order is under control and assured that the case is being handled with seriousness. Authorities are also examining the role of social media circulation in escalating tensions.

The attack comes amid heightened attention on the condition of migrant workers in Tamil Nadu, where lakhs from Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal are employed in construction, factories, and daily-wage jobs. While the state has repeatedly denied claims of targeted violence, incidents like this continue to raise questions about migrant safety, integration, and enforcement on the ground.
