IND vs PAK: T20 World Cup 2024 Highlights, India Defeats Pakistan in a 6 Run Thriller

The 2024 edition of the biennial T20 World Cup saw another epic clash between arch rivals India and Pakistan (IND vs PAK). In this match played at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, India won by a slight margin of six runs.

India’s batting faltered, but Pant instilled enthusiasm

Batting first, the Indian team faced a tough challenge from the Pakistani fast bowling attack. Naseem Shah 3/21 ( 4 ) and Haris Rauf 3/21 ( 3 ) led the attack, restricting the Indian top order. Rohit Sharma (13) started well but could not convert it into a big score. Virat Kohli (4) also got out cheaply, leaving the middle order to face a big challenge. Only Rishabh Pant 42-run knock offered some resistance as wickets kept falling at regular intervals. India were eventually bowled out for a paltry 119 in 19 overs.

Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah was the hero of the India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2024 match!

Bumrah bowled a phenomenal 4-over spell, taking a staggering 3 wickets for just 14 runs. This put immense pressure on the Pakistani batsmen, especially during a crucial phase in their chase.

Player of the Match: For his exceptional performance, Bumrah was deservedly named the Player of the Match.

Pakistan Falters in the Chase

Chasing an easy target of 120, Pakistan started cautiously. Mohammad Rizwan (31) and Babar Azam (13) provided a solid base at the top, but both fell prey to Jasprit Bumrah‘s brilliance. Rizwan was bowled by Bumrah, while Babar Azam was caught by Suryakumar Yadav after being deceived by a slower delivery from the same bowler.

Despite a late comeback from Shadab Khan (4), Pakistan’s target fell apart. Imad Wasim (15) and Iftikhar Ahmed (5) were dismissed by Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah respectively, making it a tough mountain to climb for Pakistan. Shaheen Afridi (0) and Naseem Shah (10) remained unbeaten, but Pakistan lost by a slender margin of 6 runs, finishing at 113 for 7 in 20 overs.

Impactful Bowling Figures

Bumrah finished his spell with incredible figures of 4 overs, 3 wickets conceded for a miserly 14 runs. His economy rate of 3.50 and ability to take wickets at crucial moments were instrumental in derailing Pakistan’s chase.
