On April 3, 2024, a major earthquake of magnitude 7.2 struck Hualien, eastern Taiwan. This caused significant damage to buildings and triggered landslides, tragically killing at least 14 people.

Since then, there have been over 1,000 aftershocks, including a cluster of strong tremors reaching magnitudes of up to 6.3 on April 23rd. These aftershocks have been felt across large parts of Taiwan, including the capital Taipei.
