In a significant move, the Indian government has blocked Pakistani actress Hania Aamir Instagram account within India. This action follows her controversial remarks criticizing the Indian Army after the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 36 civilians.
When Indian users attempt to access Aamir’s Instagram profile, they are met with a message stating:
“Account not available in India. This is because we complied with a legal request to restrict this content.”The Times of India
This move is part of a broader crackdown by the Indian government on online platforms disseminating content deemed anti-India or promoting misinformation. Earlier this month, India also blocked 16 Pakistani YouTube channels, including those of prominent media outlets like Dawn News and ARY News, under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. While an official statement from the Ministry of Home Affairs is awaited, this development underscores the Indian government’s firm stance against content perceived as threatening to national security and public harmony.
