Bhopal, May 4, 2025 — The main accused in the high-profile Bhopal gang rape and blackmail case, Farhan Ali, was shot in the leg on Saturday night after allegedly attempting to escape police custody. According to the police, the incident occurred while the accused was being escorted for evidence recovery.
Farhan, who was arrested earlier this week in connection with the rape and extortion of two college students, reportedly tried to snatch a sub-inspector’s pistol during the operation. The police claim that they had no choice but to open fire in self-defense after the accused attacked the officer and attempted to flee.
He was immediately subdued and taken to Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal, where he is undergoing treatment for a bullet injury to his leg. His condition is said to be stable.
The police have now booked Farhan under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (attempt to murder), in addition to the existing charges of gang rape, criminal intimidation, and extortion.
