New Delhi — Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan took a strong stand on social media today, responding to ex-Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi’s derogatory comments about the Indian Army following the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
Afridi, in his statement, called the Indian forces “nalayak” (incompetent) and “nikamme” (useless), sparking outrage across social media. Reacting firmly, Dhawan posted on X (formerly Twitter):
“Kargil mein bhi haraya tha, already itna gire hue ho aur kitna giroge, bewajah comments pass karne se acha hai apne desh ki taraqqi mai dimag lagao @SAfridiOfficial. Humein hamari Indian Army par bohot garv hai. Bharat Mata Ki Jai! Jai Hind!”
“We defeated you in Kargil; you’ve already fallen so low—how much further will you sink? Instead of making baseless comments, use your mind for your country’s progress. We are proud of our Indian Army. Jai Hind!”
Dhawan’s sharp response came after a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen. His words resonated with many online, as support poured in for both his statement and the Indian armed forces.
The online spat has once again brought attention to the sensitive nature of Indo-Pak relations, especially in times of national tragedy.
